Hand Split Lumber

These kiln dried 36”, hand split hickory lumber billets are a premium material choice for your next custom axe handle project. Each billet is hand split, not sawed, to guarantee straight and even grain down the length of the board. The 2 inch thick lumber makes a generous palm swell while the 3.5 inch wide billet is enough for extreme curvy handles.

If grade 1 material isn't necessary for your project, check out our grade 2 Hickory Handle Billets.

All billets are guaranteed against external knots and flaws that compromise a handle. Internal, unforeseen flaws cannot be guaranteed in this natural material.

Very nice Handle

Very nice Handle. Grain orientation is perfect, no knots just a nice handle ( I thought it was at least a grade 2 but these folks said it is a 3. The first grade must be amazing.) hanging was fairly easy, you may want to have the kerf cut done for you. I’ve done a few so it is easy to do. All in all a great product!

Great handles

Great handles, nothing like opening a new box with handles in it. It’s as good as Christmas!

Loved the new axe handles that I purchased. I got them with the kerf cut. I know I can cut one myself t this was very handy to already have done.

I found two small cracks in the axe head I intended to use your handle on

I found two small cracks in the axe head I intended to use your handle on .So as of now I haven’t installed the handle. I am in search of a head worthy of using that fine Hoffman handle on .

All Positive

I have hafted well over 100 axes, have made several dozen handles from scratch, and I have an axe in my hand nearly every day of my life. I can honestly say that these are the best handles I have ever used. Really ethical folks to deal with too. Much appreciated. Jim from rural Alaska

Love my new handle! Very little to alter to fit my hands or the head

Love my new handle! Very little to alter to fit my hands or the head. I like how the palm swell at the end of the handle is swelled all the way around. Many handles only swell fore and aft but not to the sides. I plan on purchasing more in the future.
