Curly Maple

Our curly maple handles are beautiful, but not as strong as hickory. On shorter length handles you will not notice a significant difference in performance or strength. Curly maple handles of longer lengths are best suited for display pieces rather than “users”.

These handles are elegantly and ergonomically sculpted, ending in a generous palm swell. The handle comes with a “cone-end” below the palm swell. This feature presents multiple benefits to the handle, such as protection against damage to the palm swell when fitting. Once fitted you have the option of leaving it as-is, cutting it off to the curvature of the swell or rounding it over to add a classy, vintage style bulb end. Your handle will come with 1 walnut wedge and a coat of boiled linseed oil for preservation.

  • We don’t recommend burning our handles as this can create cracks and may compromise the integrity of the handle. Any burned handles will not be guaranteed.

Kerf Cut

Getting that kurf cut is definitely worth it. Convenient for people that don't have a band saw

The cut is perfectly timed to the handle.

My band saw is a bit wobbly over a 2 inch span, and my kerf cuts are sloppy. I liked the cuts and in fact dont know why you dont cut all your handles since i think you always end up wit a kerf nd wedge. Also, i really like the extra material on the butt….makes it nice to hammer when you are hanging and you can cut it later to make it custom.
What kind of lindseed oil do you coat the handles with? I have had trouble adding more lionseed oil or even sanding and putting on a slight stain…..it acts like a polyurthethane…,makes any new oil slightly bubble up? Just curious. Thanks..they are great handles.

Thank you, glad you're happy with it! To answer your questions...
- We offer handles without kerf cut in case you have an axe head that isn't straight, or isn't large enough to cover the kerf.
- We also offer handles that are not pre oiled as well. We soak handles in oil overnight to ensure they're saturated and oiled well. The fact that it isn't taking any new oils tells us it's protected properly!
Thanks again.

Hickory billet

I have an order for a new handle for an antique shipwright's adze. The billet is large enough to include the oversized head, and straight and clear--everything I could ask for.

Awesome handle thank you

Very nice handle should last for years and more.

Love it!

I love the feel of the handle. It fits the hand. I love the swell at the end. No way your hand is gonna slip off. Only problem is now I need one for a slightly bigger eye for my Tommy Axe.

32” Straight Handle

Purchased the 32” straight and the grain was perfect, no run out at all. Very high quality handle, will purchase again. Not easy to find a place that makes good quality handles these days. Would recommend Hoffman in a heartbeat.
