Osage Orange

We’re proud to offer Osage Orange handles in mixed grade. While we do not specify #1 or #2 grade, Osage Orange is a strong material excellent for a user or wall hanger.

These handles are elegantly and ergonomically sculpted, ending in a generous palm swell. The handle comes with a “cone-end” below the palm swell. This feature presents multiple benefits to the handle, such as protection against damage to the palm swell when fitting. Once fitted you have the option of leaving it as-is, cutting it off to the curvature of the swell or rounding it over to add a classy, vintage style bulb end. Your handle will come with 1 walnut wedge and a coat of boiled linseed oil for preservation.

We don’t recommend burning our handles as this can create cracks and may compromise the integrity of the handle. Any burned handles will not be guaranteed.

Osage Orange is one of the best handle materials available. It actually has a higher Janka hardness rating, and higher flexibility rating than hickory making it an excellent choice for both a user or a wall hanger!

I found two small cracks in the axe head I intended to use your handle on .So as of now I haven’t installed the handle. I am in search of a head worthy of using that fine Hoffman handle on .

Love my new handle! Very little to alter to fit my hands or the head

Love my new handle! Very little to alter to fit my hands or the head. I like how the palm swell at the end of the handle is swelled all the way around. Many handles only swell fore and aft but not to the sides. I plan on purchasing more in the future.

Ordered three sizes of the wedges. Price was right and they shipped out quickly. Only used a small one so far but I have no complaints. Gonna order a replacement handle next for my great grandpas double bit Plumb.
